The Las Vegas Raiders have secured their star punter, AJ Cole, with a lucrative four-year contract extension, solidifying his place as the highest-paid punter in the NFL. The deal, reportedly worth $15.8 million, keeps Cole in silver and black through the 2029 season.
Cole, a two-time First Team All-Pro, has consistently delivered exceptional performance since joining the Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2019. His impressive 2024 season saw him average a career-high 50.8 yards per punt, ranking second best in the league.
The new contract not only rewards Cole's outstanding contributions but also resets the market for punters. His average annual value (AAV) of $3.95 million surpasses Michael Dickson of the Seattle Seahawks, who previously held the title of highest-paid punter.
A significant aspect of Cole's contract is the guaranteed money. He's set to receive $11 million in guarantees, a record-breaking figure for a punter and a testament to the Raiders' commitment to retaining his services. This dwarfs Dickson's $7.5 million in guaranteed money.
With this extension, Cole joins an elite group of punters with contracts exceeding $10 million in total value. The top five highest-paid punters in the NFL are now AJ Cole, Michael Dickson, Jack Fox of the Detroit Lions, Logan Cooke of the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Mitch Wishnowsky of the San Francisco 49ers. The Raiders are betting on Cole to maintain his high level of play for years to come.
