Renowned televangelist Jimmy Swaggart is in critical condition following a cardiac arrest suffered on Saturday, June 15. The 90-year-old pastor was discovered unresponsive at his home that morning, according to family members.
His son, Pastor Donnie Swaggart, shared the news during a prayer service, stating that his father was revived at the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital. He expressed the gravity of the situation, indicating that only divine intervention could prolong his father's life.
Swaggart remains unconscious in the intensive care unit. While the family is praying for a miracle, they acknowledge the severity of his condition.
Jimmy Swaggart, a Louisiana native, has been a prominent figure in the world of evangelicalism for many years. He currently leads the Family Worship Center in Baton Rouge.
During the 1980s, Swaggart's career was significantly impacted by scandals involving prostitution, leading to suspensions and ultimately his defrocking. He is perhaps best known for his televised "I have sinned" speech in 1988.
Requests for comment from Jimmy Swaggart Ministries have not been immediately answered.
