USMNT Crushed by Switzerland in Final Gold Cup Tune-Up

Must Read

The U.S. Men's National Team suffered a devastating 4-0 defeat to Switzerland on Tuesday, June 10th, raising serious concerns ahead of the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup. A disastrous first-half performance saw the Swiss dominate, leaving the USMNT searching for answers.

Switzerland's Dan Ndoye opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a well-executed play. What followed was a complete collapse from the American side, with Michel Aebischer, Breel Embolo, and Johan Manzambi adding goals in rapid succession, exposing a lack of intensity and organization.

This defeat compounds the disappointment of a narrow 2-1 loss to Turkey on June 7th. Coach Mauricio Pochettino's tactical adjustments, including a shift to a back five in the absence of injured midfielder Tyler Adams, failed to yield the desired improvement.

Despite the gloom, the match saw senior-team debuts for Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder Sebastian Berhalter and 1.FC Köln forward Damion Downs. However, their introduction could not mask the overall poor performance as the team faces a crucial period before the 2026 World Cup.

The USMNT will need to make drastic improvements to avoid an early exit in the upcoming Gold Cup.
