Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to request additional military equipment from the United States during a planned meeting with President Donald Trump at the upcoming G7 summit in Canada. Zelenskyy aims to bolster his nation's defense capabilities amidst ongoing tensions.
The Ukrainian leader emphasized his intention to discuss a potential arms deal with Trump while addressing reporters in Austria. This meeting, scheduled for June 17, will provide an opportunity for the two presidents to address the continuing conflict involving Russia.
The G7 summit, bringing together leaders from the world's major economies in the Canadian Rockies, marks the first of two significant international gatherings for President Trump this month. He is also slated to attend a NATO summit in The Hague the following week.
Amidst these diplomatic engagements, President Trump recently engaged in a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, focusing on the conflict between Iran and Israel, attempting to revive negotiations regarding Iran's nuclear program.
Zelenskyy is one of several foreign leaders scheduled for individual meetings with Trump this week. Trump will also meet with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on June 16, along with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum to discuss matters between their nations.
