Jeremie Frimpong, a right-back for Bayer Leverkusen, is rumored to be close to joining Liverpool, but according to a source, the club isn't prioritizing the move this summer.
A vital component of Xabi Alonso's success at Leverkusen, Frimpong thrived in an aggressive wing-back position that might not be available under the coach who replaces the Real Madrid-bound player.
As a result, Leverkusen could be better off cashing in and letting Frimpong go. A release clause is believed to allow the Dutchman to depart for no more than €40 million (£34 million).
Liverpool seems content to give Conor Bradley a more important position and wasn't aggressively seeking to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold. But it seems to have raced ahead of a more urgent problem with a somewhat opportunistic Frimpong transaction.
However, that source claims that Liverpool has been more interested in signing a left-back, so the Reds will need to decide quickly whether to pursue Frimpong further or drop him.
Despite Andrew Robertson's decline as a player and his ability to surpass Kostas Tsimikas, left-back is still reportedly seen as the higher priority. The most often mentioned target is Milos Kerkez of Bournemouth, despite the fact that he would cost more than Frimpong.
Liverpool is looking for a center-back and is said to have a fair chance of acquiring Dean Huijsen. In the long run, they still need to replace Virgil van Dijk and might lose Ibrahima Konate on a free transfer next summer.
In addition, there is the significant issue of needing a striker to replace Darwin Nunez, who is unreliable, and having no infinite funds to spend.
