Milwaukee Brewers fans witnessed a Major League debut for the ages on Thursday night, as pitching prospect Jacob Misiorowski took the mound against the St. Louis Cardinals. The young right-hander delivered five dazzling innings, holding the Cardinals hitless and showcasing the potential that made him a highly touted second-round pick in the 2022 draft.
Misiorowski's dominant performance was unfortunately cut short in the sixth inning by an unusual ankle injury. While preparing to deliver a pitch to Victor Scott II, Misiorowski's ankle appeared to twist awkwardly, forcing him to leave the game with the Brewers' trainer to a standing ovation from the home crowd.
Before his premature exit, Misiorowski demonstrated his impressive repertoire, striking out five Cardinals batters and walking four. He threw 81 pitches, with an astounding 14 reaching or exceeding the 100 mph mark. His very first three pitches of the game registered above triple digits on the radar gun, signaling the arrival of a potential pitching force.
Following Misiorowski's departure, Nick Mears entered the game in relief and managed to escape the inning unscathed. However, the combined no-hit bid was ultimately broken in the seventh when Aaron Ashby surrendered three hits. Despite the bullpen faltering in maintaining the no-hitter, Misiorowski earned the win as the Brewers cruised to a 6-0 victory.
Initial reports indicate that Misiorowski believes cramping contributed to the ankle roll. He conveyed optimism to reporters after the game, stating that he felt "good" despite the unfortunate incident. The Brewers and their fans are now eagerly awaiting further updates on Misiorowski's condition, hoping to see him back on the mound soon.
