Pittsburgh youth football fans experienced a rollercoaster of emotions recently when George Pickens, shortly after being traded to the Dallas Cowboys, abruptly canceled his scheduled youth football camp in Pittsburgh. The camp, initially slated for June 28th, left many families disappointed and scrambling for answers.
TruEdge Sports, the organization coordinating the camp, expressed their frustration in a strongly worded email to registered families. They stated that Pickens had "walked back on his word" despite assurances made immediately following the trade that he would honor his commitment. TruEdge emphasized their preparation and the letdown felt by the children anticipating the event.
Despite the initial disappointment, TruEdge Sports swiftly pivoted to find a solution. The company announced that they would reschedule the camp for late July and secured Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth as Pickens' replacement.
Furthermore, TruEdge is working to bring additional Steelers players to the camp, which now aligns closely with the team's preseason training camp. All attendees will receive autographs from every participating NFL player. The Steelers organization confirmed Freiermuth's involvement. Further comment from Pickens' representation and the Dallas Cowboys was not immediately available.
