DePaul Soccer Player Chase Stegall Dies at 20
DePaul University sophomore soccer player Chase Stegall, 20, passed away unexpectedly in his dorm room on Monday. The cause of death has not been released. Stegall, an Atlanta native, played as a midfielder and appeared in 16 games for the Blue Demons in the 2024 season. He is survived by his parents and brother; his father is a Canadian Football Hall of Famer.

The DePaul University community is in mourning following the sudden passing of sophomore midfielder Chase Stegall. Stegall, 20, was found dead in his dorm room on Monday. The cause of death has not yet been released.
A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Stegall was a valued member of the Blue Demons men's soccer team. He appeared in 16 of the team's 17 games during the recent 2024 season, showcasing his dedication and skill on the field.
DePaul President Rob Manuel expressed the university's grief in a statement, highlighting Stegall's positive impact. "Chase was known for his warmth, strength of character, and vibrant presence – qualities that touched the lives of many both on and off the field," Manuel said. "His loss is deeply felt."
Athletic Director DeWayne Peevy and Head Soccer Coach Mark Plotki jointly released a statement emphasizing the profound sense of loss felt by the entire athletic program. They described Stegall as a "cherished member of our community, dedicated teammate, and kind-hearted friend." The university has pledged to support Stegall's family and teammates during this difficult time.
Chase Stegall is survived by his parents, Milton and Darlene Stegall, and his brother, Collin. His father, Milton Stegall, had a professional football career, including time with the Cincinnati Bengals. He achieved significant success in the Canadian Football League, holding multiple records and earning induction into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame.
Details regarding a memorial service for Chase Stegall will be announced by the university at a later date. The DePaul community remembers Stegall not only for his athletic abilities but also for his character and the positive influence he had on those around him.
