Evander Kane Traded to Vancouver Canucks

Must Read

Evander Kane is heading home. In a surprising move this week, the Edmonton Oilers traded the veteran forward to the Vancouver Canucks for a fourth-round pick (117th overall) in the upcoming NHL draft. The Canucks will also absorb Kane's $5.125 million cap hit for the 2025-26 season, the final year of his existing contract.

The trade marks a return to Vancouver for Kane, who grew up in the city. He even announced the trade himself via social media before the official team announcements, expressing his gratitude to the Oilers organization and his excitement about joining the Canucks.

"Evander is a physical power forward who will bring a needed element of size and grit to our lineup," commented Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin. He further added that they admire Kane's puck battles and how he handles himself in front of the net. Allvin believes that Kane is a productive goal scorer in the NHL, and is excited to have him.

Kane's time in Edmonton was marked by both success and challenges. Though he contributed 12 points in 21 playoff games during the Oilers' recent Stanley Cup Final run, his regular season was entirely lost due to recovery from multiple surgeries. These included repairs to hip adductor muscles, hernias, abdominal muscles, and a knee surgery.

Throughout his NHL career, Kane has amassed 617 points across 930 regular-season games playing for the Atlanta/Winnipeg franchise, Buffalo Sabres, San Jose Sharks, and Edmonton Oilers. A former fourth-overall draft pick by the Atlanta Thrashers in 2009, Kane brings a wealth of experience and a scoring touch to the Canucks' roster.

Oilers fans bid farewell to a player who brought passion and energy to the team, while Canucks fans welcome a hometown hero hoping to make an impact in the blue and green.
