Jacob Morrison Shines at College World Series, Leads Coastal Carolina to Victory

Must Read

Jacob Morrison, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers' standout pitcher, delivered a dominant performance at the College World Series against Oregon State. His stellar outing propelled the team to a 6-2 victory and showcased his exceptional talent on the national stage.

The Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year for 2025 proved why he's considered one of the top arms in college baseball. After surrendering a solo home run in the third inning, Morrison entered cruise control. He impressively retired 16 consecutive batters, a feat rarely seen in College World Series competition. Since 2011, only two other pitchers have achieved such a long string of outs at this prestigious event.

Morrison, a towering 6-foot-8 right-hander, commanded the game from the mound. He pitched 7 2/3 innings, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out seven. This performance lowered his season ERA to an impressive 2.08, further solidifying his status as an elite pitcher.

With the win, Morrison improved his unblemished record to 12-0 for the season. Coastal Carolina has remained undefeated in every game where Morrison has been credited with the decision. Entering the game, Morrison's ERA ranked sixth-best in the nation, and the best among all pitchers still competing in the College World Series.

Morrison has consistently delivered strong outings throughout the NCAA tournament. He pitched six innings against Auburn in the Super Regional, allowing only one run and striking out six, helping secure the Chanticleers' trip to Omaha. Prior to that, in the Conway Regional, he allowed four runs on seven hits in five innings against East Carolina.

If Coastal Carolina advances to the national championship series, Morrison will be ready to take the mound again. He has the opportunity to further cement his legacy on college baseball's grandest stage, as the Chanticleers aim for their second national championship since their 2016 triumph.
