Houston Rockets forward Jabari Smith Jr. is reportedly on the verge of signing a lucrative five-year contract extension worth $122 million. Sources indicate the deal is expected to be fully guaranteed and will keep the former Auburn standout in Houston through the 2030-31 NBA season.
The impending extension underscores the Rockets' confidence in Smith's development. This season, he averaged 12.2 points and 7 rebounds across 57 games, starting in 39 of those contests.
The Rockets are coming off a strong 2024-25 campaign, finishing with a 52-30 record and securing the second seed in the Western Conference playoffs. However, their postseason run was cut short with a first-round exit against the Golden State Warriors in a hard-fought seven-game series.
In a surprising move earlier this week, Houston traded young guard Jalen Green and veteran Dillon Brooks to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for Kevin Durant, signaling their intention to compete at an even higher level.
Smith, the third overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, has spent his entire professional career with the Rockets. Over his three seasons, he has posted averages of 13.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game, while shooting 43.2% from the field and 34% from three-point range. He also contributes defensively with 0.8 blocks and 0.6 steals per game, playing an average of 31.1 minutes.
