Jaguars Coach Shoots Down Travis Etienne Trade Rumors

Must Read

Recent speculation surrounding a potential trade involving Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne can be put to rest, according to comments from the team's new head coach, Liam Coen. Despite the Jaguars drafting two running backs – Bhayshul Tuten and LeQuint Allen – in the 2025 NFL Draft, Coen has expressed confidence in Etienne's role within the team.

"He's doing everything we ask of him," Coen stated, effectively dismissing the trade rumors as "absolutely inaccurate." The arrival of Tuten and Allen added to an already crowded backfield featuring Etienne, Tank Bigsby, and Keilan Robinson, fueling questions about Etienne's future.

Etienne's 2024 season saw a dip in production compared to his previous two years. After eclipsing 1,000 rushing yards in both 2022 and 2023, he totaled 558 rushing yards and two touchdowns last season while averaging 3.7 yards per carry. Injuries hampered his performance, causing him to miss two games.

The Jaguars' overall rushing attack struggled in 2024, ranking among the league's lowest. While Bigsby saw increased playing time, even surpassing Etienne in carries and rushing yards, it was due to Etienne's injury.

Etienne is currently playing under his fifth-year option and is scheduled to become a free agent after the 2025 season. Coen's vote of confidence suggests the Jaguars intend to utilize his talents this year, making him a key component of their offensive strategy. The team hopes to revitalize its running game with Etienne leading the charge.
